Fundamentals of Defensive Pistol (Level 1)
Learn pistol shooting for home and personal defense with this fun and informative course.
This is NOT a CCW permit course. For CCW permit courses click here.
You’ll learn the difference between target shooting and shooting to defend yourself. Lessons include:
- Engaging single and multiple targets.
- Shoot/No Shoot decision making.
- Instinctive (point) shooting.
- Flash sight picture.
- Use of cover.
- Drawing from a holster.
- Drawing from concealment.
This dynamic interactive pistol shooting class is provided in the safety of our virtual range in the heart of beautiful Mission Valley San Diego.
Handgun Course Requirements:
- Must be at least 18 prior to registering for class.
- Must NOT be prohibited from possessing a firearm.
- NO Guns or Ammunition Allowed!
- Prerequisite: NRA Basic Pistol Shooting or equivalent training (NRA class, CCW permit, military, etc.).

Tactical Firearms Simulator Training I

This course is designed for civilian gun owners of all experience levels who want to improve their defensive firearm skills, situational awareness, and decision-making under pressure—all in a safe, non-live-fire environment.

Fundamentals of Defensive Pistol (Level 1)
Learn pistol shooting for personal defense in public places. This course is perfect for anyone who carries a gun in public either concealed or openly. If you carry a gun, this course is for you.

You’ll learn and practice practical defensive shooting as it might be done in public places. Lessons include:
- Drawing and engaging threats while seated in a restaurant booth.
- Reloading from this position.
- Drawing and engaging threats after having been knocked down or fallen.
- Reloading from this position.
- Drawing and engaging threats from the prone position.
- Reloading from this position.
- Drawing and engaging threats while retaining control of a child or loved one.
- The difference between tactical reloads and emergency reloads.
- Various ways to execute tactical and emergency reloads.
- Shooting while moving.

Tactical Firearms Simulator Training II
Tactical Firearms Training II: Active Threat & High-Stress Response
Train for the Moment You Hope Never Comes.
Building on the fundamentals of Tactical Firearms Training I, this advanced course immerses participants in dynamic, fast-paced scenarios that simulate active threat situations—such as workplace violence, public attacks, or carjacking incidents. This course challenges decision-making, movement, and communication under extreme stress using MILO’s scenario-based technology.
Key Skills Covered:
- Active shooter and public threat scenarios
- Tactical movement and cover techniques
- Situational awareness in high-traffic environments
- Split-second decision-making
- De-escalation and lawful response under pressure
This training is provided at our Mission Valley San Diego location in cooperation with our partners at Secure Measures.
⚠️ Designed for concealed carriers and experienced gun owners who want to expand their capabilities and mindset for handling complex, unpredictable situations.
Session Lengths: 3 hours
Cost: $149 per person.
Defensive Pistol Skill Builders:
Interactive scenario based training conducted in our virtual law enforcement simulator. Skill builders are simulator work only. There is no classroom instruction.
Skill builder sessions are conducted each month using different scenarios. You’ll learn and practice the following skills real-time:
- Conflict avoidance
- De-escalation
- Critical decision making (shoot/don’t shoot, etc.)
- Drawing from the holster under pressure (standing, sitting, etc.)
- Shooting and moving (getting off the X)
- Use of cover
- One handed shooting
- Strong side/support side shooting
- Shooting from alternative positions (kneeling, on your back, on your butt, etc.)
- Unconventional use of laser sights.
These sessions teach advanced skills for experienced shooters. The focus of individual skill building sessions are different. No single skill building session will incorporate all of the skills listed above.
Skill builders are semi-private (2 students at a time) conducted in our virtual range simulator located in our Mission Valley San Diego office.

Defensive Shotgun Basics
Learn the basics of shotgun shooting for home and personal defense with this fun and informative course.
You’ll learn shooting to defend yourself, as well as: stance; shotgun manipulation, acquiring single and multiple targets; basic elements of fast and accurate defensive shooting; basic elements of combat and tactical reloads; and the basics of shooting around and over barriers.
This dynamic interactive course is provided in the safety of our Mission Valley training facility using our virtual range law enforcement simulator
