Home Defense Basics
Protect yourself and your loved ones against intruders and criminals. Take this dynamic course in the safety of our Mission Valley training facility using our MILO law enforcement simulator.

This home defense course is designed to help you prepare to defend yourself and your loved ones in and around your own home. This course will describe in detail what you can do during situations such as burglary, theft, robbery, assault and other crimes that could occur. Students will then run through realistic simulator drills to practice learned concepts.
In this home defense course you’ll learn:
- Basic firearms safety rules
- How to set up a safe room
- The four levels of awareness
- Steps to make your home more secure
- How to communicate with the police
- How to avoid legal pitfalls
- How to defend yourself from attackers in your home
This course includes:
- Detailed classroom instruction
- Interactive scenario training in a simulator designed for law enforcement

Defensive Handgun Basics

Learn pistol shooting for home and personal defense with this fun and informative course.
You’ll learn the difference between target shooting and shooting to defend yourself, as well as: grip; stance; acquiring single and multiple targets; basic elements of instinctive shooting; basic elements of combat and tactical reloads; and the basics of shooting around and over barriers.
This dynamic interactive course is provided in the safety of our Mission Valley training facility using our MILO law enforcement simulator.
Course requirements:
- Must be at least 18 prior to registering for class.
- Must NOT be prohibited from possessing a firearm.

Defense Rifle Basics

Intermediate & Advanced Courses:
Defensive Pistol Skill Builders:

Interactive scenario based training conducted in our MILO law enforcement simulator. Skill builders are simulator work only. There is no classroom instruction.
Skill builder sessions are conducted each month using different scenarios. You’ll learn and practice the following skills real-time:
- Conflict avoidance
- De-escalation
- Critical decision making (shoot/don’t shoot, etc.)
- Drawing from the holster under pressure (standing, sitting, etc.)
- Shooting and moving (getting off the X)
- Use of cover
- One handed shooting
- Strong side/support side shooting
- Shooting from alternative positions (kneeling, on your back, on your butt, etc.)
- Unconventional use of laser sights.
These sessions teach advanced skills for experienced shooters. The focus of individual skill building sessions are different. No single skill building session will incorporate all of the skills listed above.
Skill builders are semi-private (2 students at a time) conducted in our MILO simulator located in our Mission Valley San Diego office.
Session requirements:
- Must be at least 18 prior to registering for class.
- Must NOT be prohibited from possessing a firearm.
- NO Guns or Ammunition Allowed!
Prerequisite: Any one of the following:
- A current CCW permit from any state
- A current BSIS exposed firearm permit
- Active duty or retired law enforcement credential
- Completion of any of the following courses (certificate required):
- Our “Home Defense Basics” course.
- Our “Defensive Handgun Basics” course.
- NRA Personal Protection Inside the Home.
- NRA Personal Protection Outside the Home.
- NRA Concealed Carry course.
Session Lengths: Booked in 1hr increments.

Concealed Carry Permits
California Concealed Carry Permit (Initial application)

You must apply with the Sheriff’s Department and be approved for your permit prior to taking this course.
This course is for people who are applying to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department for a California concealed carry permit.
This is a two day course. The first day is classroom only and held at our Mission Valley office. Day two is live fire range qualification held at P2K Sports in El Cajon.
Note:
- We are approved instructors for the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department conceal carry permit courses.
- You must apply with the Sheriff’s Department and be approved for your permit prior to taking this course.
- You can find more information on the Sheriff’s websites at San Diego County Sheriff.
Course Information
The course fee includes qualifying with one gun. Each additional gun costs $25 (paid at the range) for the instructor’s time.

Course length: 8 hours classroom (not including the lunch break). No more than 3 hours on the range (generally less).

California Concealed Carry Permit (Renewal)

This is a RENEWAL course. You can only take this course if you have an existing permit.
This course is for people who are renewing their existing concealed carry permit issued by the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department. You must complete this course prior to submitting your renewal to the sheriff.
This is a two day course. The first day is classroom only and held at our Mission Valley office. Day two is live fire range qualification held at P2K Sports in El Cajon.

Multi-State Concealed Carry Permit

The next step for California gun owners who travel. The Multi-State concealed carry permit class allows Californians to easily obtain permits from both Arizona and Utah. Both permits are accepted by multiple states across the country.

NOTE:
- This is a one day course held at our Mission Valley office. The course is classroom only. Range qualification is not required.
- The course fees include the course ONLY. State applications fees, passport photo, fingerprinting, and postage are not included.
Applicants must:
- Be 18 years old on day of class
- Take a class from a certified Instructor
- Pass an FBI background check with no felonies, DUI, or violent crimes
- Submit completed application and pay state fees
